As the pace of globalisation increasingly shapes the world there has been some school of thought that have advanced the theory that the idea of the sovereign state is being eroded by the forces of globalisation. I however hold the view that globalisation and global governance far from eclipsing the state, is rather transforming it to meet up with the challenges and accelerated pace of modern times. Public Relations and Marketing therefore are two academic fields that have a lot in common, with current trends in both fields of study witnessing the encroachment of one or the other into what use to be the sole preserve of either subject matter. My understanding therefore and as with the case of globalisation, is that every academic subject intrinsically has a link to every other, hence the use of PR concepts in Marketing and vice versa only goes to complement and strengthen both fields to meet up with current challenges. I think one is by no means eclipsing the other.
